Oh, man I am such a geek

Ok, so I was telling museumfreak about the Geoffrey Chaucer Hath a Blog version of Snakes on a Plane. (Warning, there are spoilers) I read her the line about Samuel L. Jackson's character being a "bad motherswyvere". She didn't laugh, because she didn't know what "swive" meant.

Thus the geekdom began (oh, you thought the Geoffrey Chaucer and the Snakes on a Plane were geeky, did you?). I immediately had to look it up on The Oxford English Dictionary and read to her the derivation of the term. Which included an antecedent in OFris. which I had to look up on Wikipedia as being Old Frisian, a language of Germanic origin spoken in an area on the shore of the North Sea . . .

So from Snakes on a Plane to Geoffrey Chaucer to the OED to linguistics . . .

Yup, I'm a geek. And a librarian. A geek librarian.
